- William of Abernethy, lord of Saltoun, for the salvation of his soul and his spouse, and for the salvation of his father and his mother and all his ancestors and successors, has given, granted and by this his present charter established to Dryburgh Abbey that whole messuage, with the brewery, which William called Wolf formerly held in the villa of Saltoun (ELO) which lies near the grange of the canons to the west, and seven acres of arable land near the adjacent croft of the canons, and the seven acres of arable land near the adjacent croft of the canons to the east, and with pasture for eight oxen, two cows, and two draught animals, with his husbandmen and with the fuel in his moor, sufficient for one husbandman, to be held and had from him and his heirs, in free, pure and perpetual alms, and as ecclesiastical land, with free entrance and exit, without any terrestrial service, custom, exaction or demand. Additionally, he confirms all the donations of land which they held in the tenement of Saltoun and four acres of land from the gift of John 'Burgulum' of Saltoun lying between the seven acres of land which William gave the canons in perpetuity. Additionally, he wishes and grants that abbot and canons may have and hold all the aforesaid land from his gift, as from others in his tenement of Saltoun, with the messuage, brewery, pasture and fuel in his moor, free and without any presentation of multure. William promises warrandice.
