Edward of Whitewell, clerk, rector of the church of ‘Kirkmolyn’ has given, granted and quitclaimed to Soutra Hospital, all those lands which he held of the house of Soutra at Whitewell and in the holding of Swanston (MLO). He has also given and granted and by this his charter established to Soutra Hospital, that land which ‘Tyhoc’ of Mount Lothian held of the Temple, that is, which Soutra paid to the Templars of Balantrodoch for the land, that is, 13d., half at Easter and half at Michaelmas, and the land of ‘Bothoclyd’ which Edward held of St Germain for 4d. at Michaelmas; to hold in free, pure and perpetual alms from all secular service, custom and demand. In addition to the said lands, he will provide one mark’s worth of land.

Given the location of Swanston and Mount Lothian, it is likely that Whitewell was also in MLO. The more perplexing thing is the identity of the church of ‘Kirkmolyn’, although the attestation by the archdeacon of Lothian suggests that it was under his jurisdiction.
