Nicholas the weaver, burgess of Berwick states that while Sir Matthew, abbot of Melrose, and the convent may have relinquished to him 100 marks of legal sterling for a certain part of land in Briggate (in Berwick, BWK) which he sold to them, the abbot and convent […] a total sum of money by the hands of Sir G, cellarer of M[elrose] […] thence Nicholas testified publicly, for him and his heirs, that it has been paid to him.
