- Adam son of Adam of Edington has granted, given, and made firm by this his charter, to Ralph the Messenger son of Alan Granger of Coldingham, in return for his homage and service, 16 acres of arable land in the territory of Coldingham, with a third part of the toft and croft, which the prior and convent of Durham gave to Adam his father, and which he (Adam, the grantor) afterwards gave to Robert son of Roger his brother, which Adam, brother and heir of Robert, gave back to him in the full court of the prior of Coldingham, by rod and staff, for default of service; 1d. is to be rendered to him thereupon, and for him and his heirs, 6d. at the feast of Pentecost towards the fabric of the church of Coldingham, for all service.
