Adam son of Udard, with the consent of his heirs, has granted and by this his charter established to Newbattle Abbey that ploughgate of land of the district (tellure) of Hailes (ELO) which is next to the land of Bearford, which Oliver his uncle gave them, in pure and perpetual alms, by the same bounds by which they held it in the life of the aforesaid Oliver his uncle, free and quit from all exaction and service and secular custom. He also grants them pasture for 300 sheep with all of the common of the said villa of Hailes, and free entrance and exit to the said pasture.
