- Hugh of Crawford, the knight, and Alice, his wife, in the year 1271 on the day of Saint James, the apostle, received from their lord, Hugh, by the grace of God, abbot of Kelso, and the convent, one charter with the seal of the chapter of Kelso appended, the tenor of which is the following: Abbot Henry and the convent of Kelso make a statement concerning Draffan (LAN), namely, that in the year 1271, he found that Sir Hugh of Crawford, knight, and Alice, his wife, had possession of the land of Draffan and its pertinents, paying yearly 2½ marks to Kelso.
