- Description
- Robert of Hillcrest, the knight, has given, granted and by this his present charter established, for the salvation of his soul and his wife, Marjory, and his ancestors and successors, to Kelso Abbey, in free, pure and perpetual alms, his whole land with the building and croft and other pertinents and freedoms which are found in the villa which is called Newton (i.e. Kirknewton, Northumberland) between the land of Nicholas of Malveson and the land of Alan, the butcher. The monks are to return to Robert and his heirs 9d. annually, half at the feast of Saint Cuthbert in Lent, and the other half at the feast of Saint Cuthbert in Autumn.
