Document 3/503/5 (Kel. Lib., no. 316A)

Description
Hugh Ridel has given, granted and by this his charter established to Kelso Abbey, for the use of the secretary, the church of Cranstoun-Riddel (MLO) with everything justly pertaining to it, in free and perpetual alms, save the tenure of Isaac during his life, the multure of the church’s land itself, and the teinds of the grain of the parish which will be free and quit from multure. The monks will not give it to a persona or place it at ferme but will hold it in the demesne of their church, in their hands and for the use of the secretary. He gave this church to them for the soul of King David and Earl Henry, his lord, and Hugh, my son, and for the salvation of his soul and his wife and all of their ancestors and all of their heirs and successors.
