Document 3/51/1 (Inchaff. Chrs., no. 98)

Description
Brice of Ardrossan ratifies (to the extent that it pertains to him) the collation of Sir Malise (II), late earl of Strathearn, to a chaplain in the almshouse of Inchaffray of four marks annually from his land of ‘Mukracht’ (Monkcroft) in perpetuity, in pure and perpetual alms, as contained in the charter of the lord earl, and because the said earl has given and granted the land of ‘Tulach’ for finding a chalice and ornamenta of the said chaplain by the aforesaid charter, and afterwards having changed his wish in order to assign the land to the church of Dunblane at the disposition of the bishop, he (Brice), not wishing the divine office to stop in the said almshouse due to the lack of ornamenta, gives and establishes by this present charter, for the welfare of the souls of Earl Malise and others, to the aforesaid chaplain and his successors in perpetuity one mark annually, half at Pentecost and half at Martinmas, from the land which he holds at feuferme by charter in the territory of Pitlandie (PER), by means of the Abbot and convent of Inchaffray, to whom he assigned the said land by his charter. He also wills and grants that his successors should pay the said mark if the abbot and convict are ever evicted from that land.
