- Description
- An inquest was made by order of the lord king, by Robert de Muhaut, knight, of the land of ‘Iniany’ next to ‘Falerikkum’ (in Maryton parish, ANG), namely, by these barons: the baronies of Old Montrose, Rossie, Fithie, Kinnell, Inverkeilor, Inverlunan, Kinblethmont, ‘Lexyn’ (Logie), Dun, Brechin, Kinnaber, Little Pert, Melgund, Panmore, Panbride, Turrin and Rescobie and a great part of the burgesses of Montrose. All of those aforesaid jurors said that a certain man who was called Crane had and held the said land hereditarily by the gift of King William and died invested and saised in the said land as a feu. And after his death, Swain his son had and held the said land hereditarily and after his death, Simon, his son, had and held the said land hereditarily and the said Simon had five daughters by two espoused women, namely, Margaret, Agnes, Suannoch, Christiana and Mariota, and that the said Swain, Crane, and Simon never performed military service nor gave aid, nor ever did anything else in the world for the land, except the office of door-keeper of the castle of the lord king of Montrose. And the jurors swore that the said women are the legitimate and nearest heirs of the said defunct Simon.
