Inquest concerning ‘del Chele’ by sixteen sworn men, of which six were holding free [(?) … Patrick] died vested and seised of the land of Chele in order that who succeeded to Patrick in the feu [… …] the same land […] the father of William, the present ‘latoris’. Item, the inquest was made […] they swore that [the evidences?] were burned with his houses and they swore that […] and they swore that Patrick held the land freely by the charter of Sir R. de […], lord of the estate, 4s. at Christmas for all secular service and demand […] from Edinburgh. These are the jurors who have sworn: Andrew of Crosston, Mervin de Dangeton, Sturst[… Thurstan?], Richard of Bondington, Patrick of Clifton, William son of Thurmuston, […] Strathbrock, William, seneschal of Degaston [illegible], Hugh son of Duncan of ‘Ale[…]scalinga’, Robert Collan, Elias de Balhernaye, William del Faihi [illegible].
