A similar agreement is formed between Kelso Abbey and Newbattle Abbey concerning their salt-pans, discharged at feuferme for ½ mark paid at the feast of St Michael. They have a similar bond with the master and brothers of Balantrodoch for their salt-pans, discharged for 15s. yearly [paid] during the octaves of St Michael. If the monks of Newbattle do not render the payment to the Temple of Balantrodoch, they shall give surrender to them their cart-service of Newbyres (MLO) which is next to ‘le Stobbys’.
