Document 3/111/2 (Kel. Lib., no. 45)
- Description
- Emma, wife of Ralph de Burneville, of her free will, has granted that donation and quitclaim made by Ralph de Burneville, her husband, to Kelso Abbey of all the lands, renders and possessions that she and Ralph had in the villa of Berwick, and she also ratified the donation, quitclaimed her rights in it, and established it by this her charter. She wants the monks to have, hold and possess the property in free, pure, and perpetual alms, free from any claim by her, just as her husband’s charter testfies and confirms. She affirmed the agreement by a free and corporal oath given into the hands of the lord H., abbot of Kelso, and she subjects herself to the jurisdiction of the archdeacon of Lothian without recourse to legal remedy.
