Document 4/4/5 (SEA, i, no. 26)

Description
Bishop R[alph] of Brechin announces an agreement between the bishop and the abbot and monks of Arbroath Abbey, whereby the abbot and monks showed that certain of the abbey’s churches in the diocese, namely, Maryton [Old Montrose] (ANG), Guthrie (ANG), Panbride (ANG), Monikie (ANG) and Dunnichen (ANG) cannot pay procurations for visitations as honestly as they would wish either because of the poverty of their house or for other stated reasons. The abbot and convent proposed that the bishop should remit the procurations at a visitation of those churches and at the end of a visitation should come to the abbey to receive the procuration, because there they could pay the procuration more fruitfully and honestly. The bishop, with the advice of his clergy, remits the exaction of procuration at those churches, and will receive the procurations at Arbroath.
