Document 4/32/39 (St A. Lib., 387)
- Description
- The abbot of Scone, J[ohn], abbot of Lindores, and Master Laurence, archdeacon of St Andrews, papal judges-delegate, confirm the settlement of the controversy between the prior and monks of May and Thomas, son of Eustace of Berwick, concerning certain lands in Berwick, that is, on Bridgegate (in uia pontis) which the monks claimed were bestowed to them from the will of Waltheof Rufus; whereby Thomas recognised the right of the monks in the said lands and remitted all his claim against the monks. Thomas shall hold that land which the monks said was given in legacy to them from the said Waltheof, with another land which the same Waltheof held from the monks just in his lifetime, free and quit to him and his heirs, rendering thereupon yearly to the prior and monks, 2 marks, one at Pentecost and the other at Martinmas; and Thomas shal make satisfaction to Agnes, wife of the said Waltheof, without prejudice of the said monks, if perchance he should move a plea in respect of her dowry.
