Document 4/32/22 (Pais. Reg., 229-30)

Description
Henry, archdeacon of Dunkeld, Gilbert, archdeacon of Dunblane, and Adam, master of schools of Perth, recite a papal mandate of Innocent [III] accepting a complaint by William, clerk, that the monks of Paisley and others of the Glasgow diocese, presume to claim that the chapel of Prestwick (AYR) belongs by right to the church of Sanchar (AYR). Since William, by his intention, could prove [this] by no means and [since] the right of the said monks was established; since the monks might hold the church of Prestwick for forty years and more, continuously and unshaken, the judges, having had counsel with prudent and skilled men, adjudge the church to the monks by apostolic authority, and impose perpetual silence on William and his successors.
