- Description
- Alexander, abbot of Coupar Angus, William, abbot of Dunfermline, and William, abbot of Scone, announce the settlement of the case called between the abbot and monks of Newbattle and the abbot and canons of Holyrood concerning the teinds of Preston (ELO), the Carse (STL) and Crawford (LAN), and concerning the pasture of Romanno (PEB), made in the presence of the judges, with the counsel of prudent men and mutual consent of the convents. The abbot and monks of Newbattle shall pay to the canons of Holyrood a twentieth of sheaves (garbam) of the territory of the grange of Preston, and 20s. yearly for all the teinds from the profits of the said territory. In addition, the abbot and convent of Newbattle gave and granted to the canons of Holyrood all the land of ‘Mundeloven’ with all rights and pertinents. By this payment of a twentieth of sheaves and 20s. from Preston and the donation of the said land of ‘Mundloven’, the monks shall be immune from all re-petitions of the canons, from the teinds of salt pans from Preston and from the Carse as from the teinds of the land of Crawford and of the Carse; also, the canons of Holyrood gave and granted to the monks of Newbattle all their land of Romanno with all rights and pertinents.
