Document 4/32/23 (Melr. Lib., no. 186)
- Description
- H[ugh] de Mortimer, canon of Glasgow, W[illiam], dean of Cunningham, and J[...], dean of Kilbride, Glasgow diocese, recite a papal mandate from Innocent [III] appointing them papal judges-delegate in the case between G[…], persona of Maybole and the abbot and convent of Melrose and certain others of the diocese of Glasgow concerning the teinds of lands and other things. By the authority of the mandate the case was settled, with the consent of the parties and at the connivance and assent of the nuns of North Berwick, in the following form. The conventual church of Melrose would pay annually to the church of Maybole (AYR) for all the teinds of Maybole and Largs (AYR), 10s. at the feast of St James, as long as the exaction of the teinds is defended by the persona. If anyone happens to disturb the monks of Melrose concerning the exaction of the teinds, they are permitted to cease the payment of 10s. as long as they are not defended by the rectors of the church of Maybole with effect.
