Bishop Robert of St Andrews announces an agreement between the mother church of Ednam (ROX) and the chapel of Longnewton (ROX), made before him and Hugh [de Moreville], the constable, namely, that the mother church should have all its teinds and all the rights of Newton. The monks of Coldingham, to whom the mother church belongs, shall cause mass to be sung three times a week in the chapel, at Christmas, Candlemas, the three days before Easter, Easter, Rogationtide and Whitsun, and on St Cuthbert’s day they shall come to the mother church. But if the men of Newton forfeit anything of the teinds or other rights contrary to their mother church because of that chapel, divine office shall cease at the chapel until it shall be reconciled to the mother church.
