Description
William de Brus has given, and by his charter established, to Melrose Abbey in free, pure and perpetual alms one saltpan on the sand of Rainpatrick (DMF) by stated marches, including from the saltpan of Richard del Bois towards the east, and the saltpan of Richard Fleming, with common pasture in the territory of Rainpatrick for 12 oxen, four cows and three horses, with free entrance and exit through his land; to be held of him and his heirs, for one mark yearly, paid at Martinmas.
