Document 2/39/4 (Pais. Reg., 176)
- Description
- The dean and archdeacon of Dunblane write to their discreet man, friend and associate, Laurence, dean of Lennox, commanding him, selecting with him chaplains and clerics, to go personally to the pleas of the lord king at Dumbarton, and at that place, on pain of excommunication, from the part of the lord Pope and prelates of the Scottish church, they may solemnly prevent anyone from being taken unwillingly to a lay court, outside the Christian court, to the abbot and convent of Paisley, concerning their ecclesiastical lands and alms which they possess peacefully; this is determined in letters of the lord pope obtained by the prelates of the Scottish church, and together with a letter of the lord king, perambulation or recognition against ecclesiastical persons or lands may be suspended by the counsel of the lord king and the consensus of the prelates, together with certain other articles similarly suspended; and at the complaint of the abbot and convent, the dean and archdeacon of Dunblane commissioned by apostolic authority, long ago summoned Sir Hugh Fleming to answer and obey the same right concerning the land of Dalnotter (DNB) which is said to pertain by law to the church of (Old) Kilpatrick (DNB), and concerning all the pasture that is between the land of 'Baccan' (DNB) and Hugh’s land of 'Kynmunchayr'; and since it is determined by a certain decree, it is not to be injured after the release of the citation.
