Description
Pope Honorius IV writes to the noblewoman Margaret, daughter of the nobleman Guy, count of Flanders, widow of Alexander, eldest son of the king of Scotland, noting her petition that Alexander, king of Scotland, granted at the time of the marriage of Margaret and Alexander, first-born of the said king, her husband, a dower of 1,300 marks for her lifetime, to be paid yearly on the first of August, from the revenues of the villa of Berwick in Scotland, and 200 marks from his manor of Linlithgow, in the diocese of St Andrews, which latter sum, if the manor could not produce it, was to be made up from Berwick. The king had requested this to be established by the Roman pontiff, as contained in letters patent and sealed by the seals of the said king and his son. The pope thus establishes this donation of dower.
