Document 2/140/100 (Med. Papal Reps., App. IV, no. 9)
- Description
- Pope Gregory IX writes to the bishop of Glasgow, Master Matthew of Aberdeen, archdeacon of Glasgow and the archdeacon of Teviotdale, stating that the abbot and convent of Jedburgh have stated in their petition that when a suit between them and the bishop-elect of St Andrews, concerning [the patronage] of the church of Aberlemno (ANG) in the diocese of St Andrews, which they claim to hold, was heard before [Master John], sub-dean of York, acting by apostolic authority, the same [case] promulgated a sentence for them, which they have asked to be strengthened by [apostolic] protection. Pope Gregory commands the above, therefore, to cause that sentence to be firmly observed, by ecclesiastical censure, without appeal. If they cannot all take part in carrying this out, then the bishop shall do it [along with one of the others].
