Document 2/137/57 (Robertson, Concilia Scotiae, ii, 232-3)
- Description
- Pope Innocent III writes to the bishop of St Andrews, the abbot of Arbroath, Thomas, prior of St Andrews, Ranulf, archdeacon of St Andrews, and Master [Laurence], official of St Andrews, answering a second question in which he replies that both parties may produce a deed after publication of the attestations, even up to the settlement of a final sentence, before a conclusion is drawn in the case. Concerning the third article, the men should make a careful inquiry into the facts, and if the custom of that country is approved and faith is applied to the instruments of the king, they may admit it, especially since the said king was of such honour that his instruments are of the greatest authority in parts of Scotland.
