Pope Gregory IX writes to the bishop of Glasgow, noting that his brotherhood has related to him that the abbot of Paisley and certain others, religious and secular clerics, are presenting vicars instituted in their churches to the bishop and augmenting their pensions, without the privilege of exemption, and concerning which the bishop had asked for remedy. He grants that the vicars who are presented to him by the abbot and others who are instituted canonically in his monastery and churches, shall answer to the bishop for spiritual dues; he is permitted to restrain those opposed, unless they shall reveal themselves protected by the privilege of the apostolic see.
