Document 2/140/30 (Glas. Reg., no. 161)

Description
Pope Gregory IX commands to the king of Scots to love and defend the church of Glasgow, which the pope loves as a special daughter of the apostolic see, and especially recalling any goods of the church that are illicitly alienated, and devoting suitable aid to the bishop of Glasgow. The king is not permitted to bring to a secular court the bishop or his men concerning possessions and other things of his church, except those which they possess both in fief and in perpetual alms. The king may oppose with a secular arm those who oppose the liberties and immunities granted by his ancestors to the church of Glasgow, and established by the Roman pontiffs.
