Document 2/143/122 (Dunf. Reg., no. 289)

Description
Pope Innocent IV writes to the abbot and convent of Dunfermline, noting that it was related before him that some clerics and laymen [presume] to sell, give and alienate lands, houses, meadows, possessions and others which they hold by the monastery in feu, whether sub annuo censu or by rents, to ecclesiastical persons and others, without the abbot’s assent. The pope, thus, undertakes to free the abbot and his monastery from this sort of injury. He thus prohibits them from being attacked by anyone, discerning null and void whatever shall be prejudice against prohibitions of this sort, without the abbot’s lawful assent.
