Document 2/133/5 (Glas. Reg., no. 69)

Description
Pope Urban III grants to the bishop of Glasgow and his clergy, since his church is a special daughter with no intermediary, that they never should be forced to appear in court, for examination or judgment, outside the kingdom of Scotland, unless before the apostolic see for such matters which cannot be settled in the kingdom, or unless a legate a latere appears in an adjoining province. Urban further establishes all the liberties, immunities and special indulgences indulged by his predecessors. Nothing found by the apostolic see which is prejudicial to the liberties or privileges of the church of Glasgow should have force, unless impetrated ex certa scientia.
