Document 2/130/8 (Scotia Pontificia, no. 40)
- Description
- Pope Adrian IV writes to Bishop R[obert] of St Andrews, the bishop of Glasgow and all other bishops of Scotland, reporting that, according to his own decisions and correspondence as well as those of his predecessors, due obedience should be shown to Archbishop R[oger] of York. Withdrawing such obedience would endanger both the addressees’ souls and their episcopal offices. If the bishops have any reason why they ought not to obey Roger they should appear before the pope before next Letare Sunday ready to present their arguments.
