- Roger de Quincy, earl of Winchester, constable of Scotland, for the welfare of his soul and that of Eleanor, his wife, and others, has given, granted, and by his present charter established, to Dryburgh Abbey, his whole fishery in the loch of Mertoun (BWK), in free, pure and perpetual alms, saving to the earl the catching of fish in the loch when they happen to come to the area of Mertoun.
