- Description
- Maldoven, earl of Lennox, for the salvation of the soul of King William of good memory, his lord, and others, has given, granted, and by this his charter has established, to Arbroath Abbey, and his esteemed brethren, the monks there, in return for recognition of his fraternitas, and that of his heirs, in pure and perpetual alms, to receive of him and his heirs, 4 oxen every year at Stirling on the feast of St John the Baptist; he also wills that upon his death, the monks of Arbroath should have 20 oxen of his goods. His name and that of Aulay his brother shall be written in the Abbey’s Martyrology, so that every year, on the anniversary of their death, they shall be prayed for (absoluamur) in the Abbey's chapter.
