- Alan son of Roland, constable of the lord king of Scots, has given, granted, and established by his charter, to Holyrood Abbey in free and perpetual alms all that his great-grandfather Fergus and his grandfather Uhtred gave them and by their charters established, from the donation of Fergus, all of Dunrod (KCB) with the church of the same villa, by its right bounds, free and quit from all cain and conveth and from all other exaction and custom and secular service; from the donation of his grandfather Uhtred, the church of St Cuthbert of Desnesmor (now Kirkcudbright), with all its rights and pertinents, free from all secular exaction, and the church of Tongland (KCB), and the church of Twynholm (KCB), with all rights justly pertaining to them, free and quit from all secular exaction, and the church of ‘Colmanele’ (now Urr, KCB), with the chapel of St Constantine and one ploughgate of land, and the church of St Brigid of Blaiket (KCB), with one ploughgate of land, and with all their rights, and with common pasture, and the church of ‘Locheletun’ (now Kelton, KCB) and the church of Kirkcormack (in Kelton parish, KCB), and the church of St Andrew (of Balmaghie, KCB) and that of ‘Balnecros’ (now Barncrosh, KCB), with lands and teinds and all other ecclesiastical benefits, free and quit from all secular exaction. Moreover, he grants the canons easements of all his demesne woods and forests of his land, with leave to take timber and all necessities for their own uses; and he grants that their pigs shall be free from all pannage. He wills that all the above shall be held free and quit, as attested by the charters of Fergus his great-grandfather, Uhtred his grandfather, and Roland his father.
