- Description
- The prior and convent of Coldingham give notice concerning the whole of the land, with all its pertinents, liberties and easements, which the late John Scott, son of the late Patrick Scott of Reston once held in heritage in the villa and territory of Great Reston, and for his forfeitures towards the lord king of Scots lost by judgement; and which they have now acquired from the said king and his baillies; wishing to disinherit no one, they have sold, granted, and by their charter made firm, to Patrick Scott, brother of the said John Scott, as true heir, the whole right and claim which they once had in the said land etc., and they entirely resign and quitclaim to the same Patrick for ever, for a certain sum of money that the said Patrick has paid to them for the benefit and maintenance of their house; to be held and had by Patrick and his heirs or their asignees, except for religious (besides those of Coldingham), earls and the king's baillies, freely, quietly, fully, wholly, peaceably and with honour, with all its pertinents, and the liberties pertaining to the aforesaid land within the villa of Great Reston and outside it; excepting the dowry of Alice, the stepmother of the said late John Scott, which the said Alice held at any time; with the whole customary forinsec service owed upon it to be rendered and performed annually as it pertains to the said land, or 'de iure' ought to pertain, both to the prior and house of Coldingham and to the lord king.
