- Description
- Alexander, king of Scots, makes known that Alexander, his eldest son and heir, and lady Margaret, eldest daughter of Guy, count of Flanders and marquis of Namur, who he has from Lady Isabelle, his wife, daughter of count of Luxembourg, should be joined by legal marriage, and king wishes that if marriage is made and Margaret survives his son, she shall have in villa of Berwick in Scotland each year 1,300 marks in total, [with?] 13s. 4d. for 'the March', in dower, with manor of Linlithgow in territory of Lothian in bishopric of St Andrews, to which manor is assigned a rent of 200 marks. If there is no rent to be had, Margaret shall have the total of 1,500 marks elsewhere. The king has given power to Simon Fraser, his knight, to render this money and manor. Alexander, his eldest son and heir, promises in presence of his father, king, and Sir Bernard, dean of the church of Mesen (Flanders), William, bishop of St Andrews, Donald, earl of Mar, Alexander de Balliol, William de Soules and his cousin William de Mortaingne, knights, that he shall take Margaret as his wife and loyal spouse, within octaves of St Michael next.
