- Abbot Archibald and convent of Dunfermline for William, son of Engelram, son of Edmund, son of Sorn; have granted, with assent of congregation, in feu and heritage, land that is called 'Pontekin' (prob. Pinkie, MLO) which Edmund, his grandfather, living in reign of David, had obtained, free and quit of all servitude and complaint that pertains to land besides what pertains to crown. Also, to augment his possessions, abbot grants to him 10 jugera which are situated between above-mentioned land and boundaries of Tranent (ELO) next to Wallyford (MLO). And if his man shall forfeit land of Inveresk (MLO), he shall thus have forfeiture and if abbot's man shall forfeit land then abbey shall have forfeiture. The grass of all manors, that is of Inveresk, will be communal between their men, and abbot further grants to him liberty to stay behind from king's armies unless it is a common army [from] which men of Inveresk and of Monkton (ELO) should not be able to remain at home, and then only one man shall come; in regards to mills, however, abbot grants to him that liberty [which] in English is called 'runtfre'.
