- Notes
- This document was mistakenly classified as a charter of Alexander II in Scoular's Handlist. Hugh of Abernethy's donation, is dated AD 1273, apparently two years after this royal confirmation. The bishop of Man who witnessed this charter - apparently Richard - was buried at Furness on 25 Mar. 1275. It should be noted that Hugh of Abernethy's '1273' donation was dated at Coupar Angus, and that this royal confirmation was dated at nearby Kinclaven, which is fewer than five miles from the abbey. It is most likely that the regnal year - clearly either 'xxiv' or 'xxv', was copied incorrectly as 'xxii'. It is also possible, though perhaps less likely, that Sir Hugh's charter was misdated, and 1271 was intended rather than 1273.
