- John, bishop of Dunkeld, has given, granted, and made firm by this his charter, to the brethren of the church of St John of Inchaffray his land in Madderty called Abthan' by its correct bounds with all its rightful appurtenances, at the request of Earl G[ilbert] and M[alise] his brother for the souls of the bishop, his predecessors, Earl G[ilbert] and his [predecessors], to be held by the brethren and their successors in free and perpetual alms, rendering to the bishop and his successors annually one merk of silver, half at Whitsun and half at Martinmas. He wishes and orders that the brethren and their successors should hold that land from the bishop and his successors as freely, quietly, fully and honourably from all exaction, custom and secular service pertaining to the bishop in wood, plain, meadows, pastures, waters, mills and all other easements belonging to that land as any land in the diocese is held. Reserving the pension stated above.
