Document 2/7/36 (SEA, i, no. 96)

Description
Jocelin, bishop of Glasgow, for Kelso Abbey; he has granted to the church of St Michael, Maxwell (ROX), an oratory newly situated in the territory of Maxwell in honour of St Thomas Becket, with one toft which Herbert, lord of that feu, has given.
Firm date
1175 X 1185
Dating Notes
Consecration of Bishop Jocelin × successor of Richard, dean of Teviotdale (see _SEA_, no. 92); the presence of Richard monk and chaplain suggests a date early in the episcopate. His only other appearance is in no. 84 above which can be dated 1175 × 1178. It may be that he came to Glasgow with Jocelin from Melrose and that he was not expected to remain out of the monastery for long.
