- Description
- David, king of Scots, has given his beloved relative William, earl of Ross, the earldom of Ross and lordship of Skye, with all the lordships and lands belonging to the earl throughout the kingdom, except those in the sheriffdoms of Aberdeen, Dumfries and Wigtown, which lordships, lands and earldom the earl resigned at Perth in his full parliament on 23 Oct., AD 1370, in the presence of Robert, steward of Scotland, earl of Strathearn, the king's nephew, William, earl of Douglas, George, earl of March, John Stewart, earl of Carrick, Archibald Douglas, Robert Erskine, Alexander Lindsay, and William of Dissington, knights, and many other barons and nobles of the realm, by his letters patent, and with staff and baton, by the hands of his procurator; holding by the earl and his male heirs, failing which, by Walter Leslie knight, and Euphemia his spouse, and their heirs; and if there is no male heir, by the eldest daughter, without division of the lands, and if the line of Walter and Euphemia defaults, then by Joan, the younger daughter of Earl William, and her heirs, in the same way; holding in feu and heritage, with tenancies and services of freeholders, and advowsons of churches, as Earl William held it, for service owed and wont.
