Document 1/54/490 (RMS, i, no. 256)

Description
David, king of Scots, noting that when the late John Melville the first and Walter Melville his son and heir resigned for the second time the land of 'Capronnestona' (PEB) [Capringstoun], by staff and baton, into the hands of his lord father [King Robert I], for the infeftment of that land to the said Walter and Margaret, daughter of John Ayre, his spouse, to be held by them and their lawfully procreated heirs, failing which, by Margaret's legitimate heirs of the body, failing which, by Margaret's brother Simon, and the lawful heirs of his body, and after Simon's death without any lawfully procreated heirs, it would revert to the crown; the king understands by certain evidence, that his lord progenitor (Robert I) received the resignation of John and Walter by proxies, and the entailed infeftment described above was made. The king approves, raitifies and confirms the infeftment; holding as freely as the late Walter Melville held it; saving his service, and the reversion to the crown.
