David, king of Scots, notes that it was agreed with his beloved and faithful John Lindsay of Thor, knight, that the charter that he had of the land of 'Murletyr' in the sheriffdom of Forfar through the infeftment of his lord father, was burned up suddently in a fire in the monastery of Fail (Fail abbey, AYR), and now through the good assize of responsible and faithful men of the country, diligently and faithfully made, in his justiciar ayre recently made at Forfar, which he caused to be summoned in order to exhibit the charters, it was found that John holds the said land of 'Murletyr' of the king in chief and in free barony from the infeftment of his said lord father, for the service of one archer and three suits of court at his sheriff court of Forfar. Moreover, wishing that the infeftments of his said lord father destroyed in various ways will be tenable, and willing that the charter of John of 'Murletyr' be renovated, gives and grants and by this present charter confirms to John Lindsay, all the lands of 'Murletyre', holding in free barony, by the aforesaid service.
