Document 1/54/47 (RRS, vi, no. 49)

Description
David, king of Scots, has inspected a charter of lord Alexander [II], king of Scots, his predecessor, to the House of God of Elgin [see RRS, iii, no. 216 (1/7/223)]. Due to the poverty and devastation of the said House of God, by his special grace, he has granted that the said House of God may have the lands of Manbeen free and quit from all suit and profits of his courts for whomever performs it, and from forinsec service and other secular demands, exactions, prises, captions, tallages, and armies saving for the common defence of the realm. He also prohibits anyone from harrassing them or their men living in the lands of Manbeen or their goods as relates to this grant.
