Innocent II, pope (d.1143)

Biography
Kelly, Oxford Dictionary of Popes, 167-68: Innocent was born Gregorio Papereschi in Rome and his father was named John. He was a canon of the Lateran and later abbot of SS Nicholas and Primitivus. He was cardinal-deacon of S Angelo by 1116 and was legate of France in 1123. He was elected immediately after the death of Honorius II, and enthroned at daybreak on 14 February 1130. Both he and the anti-pope, Anacletus II, were consecrated on 23 February. Innocent was consecrated at Santa Maria Nuova by the bishop of Ostia. He died on 24 September 1143.
