David of Braid, master, clerk of justiciar

Biography
Watt, Graduates, 61: David was of unknown origins, but probably took his name from Braid (Edinburgh). He is found as Master witnessing a charter of Robert Hertford, precentor of Glasgow (1223×25) and was probably the same as Master David, clerk of Walter Oliphant, justiciar of Lothian. He is perhaps related to contemporaries of the same surname, who also witness charters in which David appears (i.e. Gilbert and his brother Henry, John, Ralph). He seems to have remained clerk of the justiciary after Walter Oliphant's death in 1242, and to have served David Lindsay who succeeded. He does not appear after 1246.
