- Biography
- Fasti Ecclesiae Anglicanae 1066-1300, vi, 7-13: Robert is possibly identified as Robert, brother of Walter of Gant, and therefore son of Gilbert of Gant, who held lands in Domesday Book. He was the king's chancellor from 1140 × 42 to 1154 and first occurs as dean of York on 24 July 1147 but might have held the office earlier (1142/43 × 47). He ceased to be the king's chancellor on teh death of King Stephen in December 1154, but may have still been alive, and dean, when addressed in a papal letter of January 1157.
