after <em>Morton Reg.</em>, ii, no. 67, where Mary Stirling gives the lands to William Douglas 'if he can obtain and recover them from the king of Scots', which was dated at Roxburgh on 16 Sept. 1346. October 1346 is suggested by Robert Stewart holding the position of lieutenant after the Battle of Neville's Cross (17 Oct.). Adam, bishop of Brechin, died in 1349.
