The Chronicle of Melrose records Bishop Jocelin's gift of the church of Hassendean in 1193. Professor A.A.M. Duncan has argued (Duncan, Roger of Howden, 135-9) that the controversy referred to in this charter arose after that grant, and that Nos.93 and 94 were new charters recording the compromise worked out between the king and the bishop.
