Dating Notes
Consecration × death of Bishop Richard of Moray; the first three witnesses pose a problem. Donald Watt (<em>Fasti</em>, 283, 310) argued that names of archdeacon and dean had been transposed. However, it is possible that 'T archidiaconus' is Thomas, who occurs 1179 × 1188; Archdeacon Robert otherwise occurs late in episcopate, as does Brice, an early dean. The Robert in witness list could be an early dean before Brice. No explanation, however, can account for the mysterious 'W' which follows Brice's name.
