Description
Robert, king of Scots, has given James of Douglas son and heir of William of Douglas knight for his homage the whole land and tenement of the valley of Douglas (LAN) as well as the land and tenement of Kirkmichael (now Carmichael, LAN), by stated bounds, in feu and heritage and in free barony, with advowson of the churches, and all the freeholders and neyfs of the same. He also wills that James and his heirs or assigns may hold the land free from prises, attachments and petitions. For all wards, reliefs, marriages, escheats and suits of court, James should render one pair of gilt spurs at Lanark on Christmas every year.
