Document 3/705/1 (St A. Lib., 339-40)

Description
Gilbert of Balass has given, granted and by the present charter established to the canons in the church of St Andrews the apostle, in pure and perpetual alms, for the salvation of the souls of himself and his ancestors and successors, so that they may construct a pool for their mill of Dairsie (FIF) on his land of Balass on the other part of the River Eden. He wishes that none of his heirs, or anyone in his name inhabiting the land of Balass, may presume to disturb their construction of the pool. And if, on any occasion, the pool may have been demolished or weakened, or weakened by the inundation of water, it may be permitted to the canons to repair it, to their advantage, without any claim, objection, exaction or service.
